Lucy's LJ

If It Burns, You're Doing It Wrong

September 30, 2006: I haven't really updated my info since I started this lj, so it's probably time. When I first started here I was "clean breaking" from a painful fannish past, but now I'm over it, and I've talked in past posts, so there's really nothing to "hide," not that it necessarily ever felt like that to me.

I've been involved in on-line fandom since 1994 or 1995; I'm not entirely sure how long, since my first full year of exploring the internets involved me stealing my brother's student ID at his college and spending one day a week in the computer lab frantically surfing and dling fic on floppies to bring home and read on my 386. I first started writing in 1995 and first "published" fic online in early 1996 under the pseud "Mona Ramsey;" I kept that name for the next 4 years and wrote a lot of fic, had a ml of my own, a rather involved series of websites, and all was well. And then I was accused of plagiarising a Ryan/Miguel fic in "Oz" fandom (untrue, as I had never read the story I was accused of stealing from, and I was accused of thematic closeness rather than wholesale line-lifting; as anyone who is familiar with "Oz" would know, unless you are writing an a/u, it's pretty much impossible not to set your story in the prison.) which was enough to send me off the deep end, coming on the heels of my mother's death a few months previous and a general fandom malaise. So, I took my websites down and went away. I've seen a few people since then mention that I asked to have all of my writing under the pseud "Mona Ramsey" (or MonaR., as I'm sometimes listed as and was a sig I used) taken down - that is actually untrue. I did ask to have my "Oz" fic removed from the archive run by the person who had accused me of plagiarism in the first place, and that was done, and I asked one RPS fic that I had written under that name to be removed due to a discomfort with that 'genre' at the time (how young I was back then!), but for the majority of the summer of 2000 I spent a lot of time submitting my fic to various online archives and trying to find people who would host it for me. I was successful in some cases, and not in others, so there are bits and pieces of "monafic" floating around in the online ether - X-Files, Dead Poets Society, Batman, Angel, Brideshead Revisited, The Phantom Menace/Original Trilogy, The Matrix, The Sentinel. A google search turns up the odd story, which goes to prove that the internets are forever - which is good to keep in mind when you get the urge to camwhore, people. The rest of my old fic is safely on my hd. I think.

I wasn't actually finished with fandom at that time, nor with writing (obviously), so after a brief break I returned to "Oz" fandom as "wingedone" and then "Angel," and wrote a dozen-and-a-half fics or so. I briefly wrote in "DS9" fandom under a pseud I cannot remember for the life of me (fic now lost), and then I moved on to a one-year love affair with "Starsky and Hutch" fandom, where I wrote as "Reggie." It was during my time in "S&H" that I joined lj, originally under the username reggie_mbq.

I "became" Lucy when I started writing popslash (a return to RPS with a vengeance; needless to say, I got over my earlier issues), and I've been her ever since. Given my past history, I can't say that I'm going to _stay_ her, but barring some unknown disaster, I probably will. I like lj; it's made fandom so easy.

I have a separate lj for my fic posts: lucy_fic. I really should warn people that I do write potentially "disturbing" things - like RPS (Real Person Slash), 'cest, occasional bloodplay. I tend to stay away from rape or deathfic, though. And no, I really don't believe any of the RPS I write is real. I'm not a moron, so don't you be one, either, k?

My favourite colour is still pink.

I have a website: http://www.prettymutantboys.com. There isn't much there yet except pretty pictures of pretty boys, but eventually I hope to have some coherent links to fic again.

(slightly revised) Glossary:

Joshie is my car, named after JC Chasez.
AJ4 is my laptop, so named because I'm on my third, named after AJ McLean. I also have Alex, which is my wee little netbook, so named because he's a baby!AJ. :)
Brian is my pc, and my monitor is Kevin. I used to have a vacuum cleaner named Howie, but he caught on fire. I'm not much involved in popslash these days, but I have a fondness for the boys, still, and will probably go to see them in concert until they stop doing that.
The brother is my middle brother. I actually have four of them, though. The rest of them are referred to by their birth order.
Jonathan Rhys-Meyers is my boyfriend, he just doesn't know it yet. Shemar Moore is, likewise, my husband. Don't argue with me on these points.
My current fannish obsessions include "Torchwood," "Iron Man," "X-Men," "Criminal Minds," and yuri/yaoi manga, some of which I am actively writing at the moment. I'm fannishly fickle, though, and flit around a lot. I've always been like that. I've written in something like 60 fandoms in the past 10 years.

The shag was love.
